Why are we doing this? Well, aside from our support for Greenhill, we find that, in many ways, the new digital economy puts most small businesses firmly under Google’s thumb. There’s just no way you can run a successful business, even a veterinary clinic, without a solid online presence. This means a website, inbound links, search engine optimization, Facebook and Google+ presence, Google ads, and solid online reviews. Most of these we can do ourselves – it’s work, but fun work – but for reviews, we need the help of our clients.
We have toyed with the idea of having our techs and receptionists ask happy customers for reviews, but they are focused on pets and medical issues… and I can’t say I blame them for being reluctant to add review solicitation to their list of duties. Some say we should have contests for our clients, with financial or other rewards for those who write reviews… but that doesn’t feel right. Some clinics engage “reputation management” companies that automatically solicit reviews from clients after each visit. Not only does that feel… icky… that’s also a lot of money that we would rather see go towards pet care! Hence, this approach.
So, the details:
- For each new review we receive on Google or Yelp during the month of January, we will donate $5 to Greenhill Humane Society.
- Be honest! If you’re a Greenhill supporter but have never had a pet in to see us, please don’t write a review. And if you were less-than-thrilled with us, please don’t write a 5 star review. (If this is the case, please email or call me – we’ll do whatever is in our power to make things right.)
- We will cap the donation at $500 (100 reviews.)
