Technology in the Veterinary Hospital

I’ve been wanting to write about the technology here at Animal Health for some time, mostly because I’m a technologist, and that’s been a big part of my job here. But the thing is, at AHA (or almost any other veterinary clinic), we’re not about the technology. What we’re about is taking care of pets, and the technology is just a way to get there.

My role as AHA’s IT manager is to locate, implement, and maintain computer systems that support our doctors and staff in their efforts to keep your pets healthy and happy. When things go perfectly, it’s all seamless and nobody really notices the technology. More often, however, there are constant little glitches that remind us how this is all still a work in progress.. which sometimes obscures how blinkin’ cool this stuff really is!

So in this “column”, or “category”, or whatever WordPress calls it (more amazing computer technology!), I’m going to write about our technological successes – the fun stuff (to me) that allows us to do a better job of taking care of your pets. And in the next couple of weeks I’ll be leading up to the biggest technological leap we’ve taken here..  something which is coming soon and which goes by the acronym DR.
